The Town of Collingwood released a housing needs assessment last month which revealed that the cost to rent an apartment in the area is unaffordable for many. The survey found that there were 562 rental units in the town, with average rents for a newly-built apartment being $2125 and $1911 for an older apartment. It was also found that the lowest rental rate for a one-bedroom basement apartment is $1000 per month, and the average household income needed to afford a rental unit is $80,625.
